Frequently Asked Questions

Who Created it?

Klok was created by Rob McKeown, co-owner of Mcgraphix, Inc., as a way to track hours spent on consulting projects and as an entry in Adobe's AIR developer derby contest. It became evident that it would be useful to others so it was released as Freeware. It has since been downloaded over 90,000 times.

How do I backup my data?

The data for Klok is stored in a file called klok.dat. It can be found at

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Klok.AF6B2973D903BFAE0589C27890FE0146C233490A.1\Local Store

Windows Vista: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Klok.AF6B2973D903BFAE0589C27890FE0146C233490A.1\Local Store

For OS 10.4x/10.5x: user/Library/Preferences/Klok.AF6B2973D903BFAE0589C27890FE0146C233490A.1/Local Store/klok.dat

For Linux (Ubuntu): ~/.appdata/Klok.AF6B2973D903BFAE0589C27890FE0146C233490A.1/Local Store/klok.dat

Close Klok and copy that file somewhere safe. In the event of a problem, just copy that file back and start Klok and you will get your data back. As you might have guessed, you could use this method to transfer your data between computers if you wanted to, essentially allowing you to "sync" multiple instances of Klok.

Can Klok Connect to [enter database/source here]?

We are currently working on connecting Klok to various data sources such as Jira, Freshbooks, mysql and others. Please check back for details as they become available.

NOTE: Plans for Jira have been suspended due to a bug in Jira's SOAP Web Service with regard to Time Tracking.
